A freshwater prawn fishery has been identified along certain stretches of the Ou, Xuang and Khan Rivers in Luang Prabang Province in northern Lao P.D.R. This report summarizes the information currently available on the fishery, based on surveys carried out by Mr. Somboon (LARReC Research Officer), Mr. Oulaytham Lasasima (LARReC Research Officer), Mr. Xaipladeth Choulamany (LARReC Director) and an external advisor, Mr. Terry J. Warren. It’s main purpose is to present a proposal to conduct basic research into the life-cycle, biology and potential use in aquaculture of the most important prawn species associated with the fishery.
