This document is a peer-reviewed proposal for organic standards for aquaculture products in the United States. It is also intended to serve as a primary resource for the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB)Aquatic Animal Task Force as they develop aquaculture standards. The recommended standards in this document are proposed for formal adoption through public rulemaking processes administered by the National Organic Program (NOP)of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) pending recommendations by the NOSB. This document is submitted by the National Organic Aquaculture Work Group (NOAWG) that was formed in 2003 to create an alliance of interested parties in government, industry and academia, and to mobilize expertise to develop organic standards for aquaculture products in the United States (U.S.).
