This document contains the papers submitted by the FAO Secretariat, delegates, observers and resource persons to the Bangkok FAO Technical Consultation on Policies for Sustainable Shrimp Culture, Bangkok, Thailand, 8 to 11 December 1997. The papers comprise background information and discussion guidelines by the FAO Secretariat, descriptions and analyses of shrimp culture development and management including legal and institutional aspects and government policies of several of the main producing countries, accounts of current activities and views on shrimp culture by several intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, and a review of the literature on this subject focusing on development economics and socio-economics issues.
