This paper outlines changes to the coastal planning provisions of the RMA that will improve the integration between coastal planning, aquaculture development and fisheries management, improve the assessment of environmental effects of aquaculture and allow greater commercial benefit to be realised from the use of coastal space. The paper also proposes a package of Crown advice and involvement in RMA coastal planning processes to assist with implementation of the new provisions.
