Concern exists that farmed salmon are interacting and adversely impacting on the production and sustainability of the wild Atlantic salmon stocks of the Maritime Provinces. A special workshop was convened to review this issue and to assess potential impacts on wild salmon stocks. Means of minimizing risks to wild stocks were also identified. Specifically, the workshop addressed the following three questions.
Are farmed salmon interacting with wild Atlantic salmon in the Maritime Provinces?
If so, what are the impacts on the wild samon stocks?
What should be done to minimize the risks of these impacts?
