Bullfrog Culture

C. Greg Lutz and Jimmy L. Avery

Document format: pdf

Publisher: Southern Regional Aquaculture Center

Creation date: March 1999

Many frog species are edible, but the North American bullfrog Rana catesbeiana is generally considered the most suitable for production. However, some major problems with frog culture remain unsolved which, combined with comparatively high land and labor costs and limited growing seasons, have effectively prevented the development of commercially viable frog culture in the United States. This document describes the methods used in successful frog culture operations.
